Gianmarco Martino, born in Hamburg (having roots in Palermo (Sicily)), started to take piano lessons at age 5. He studied musicology with Prof. Dr. Albrecht Schneider and social anthropology with Prof. Dr. Hans Fischer focused on ethnomusicology.
As a teenager he started to transcribe and perform tunes from the southern part of Italy. As keyboarder, pianist and composer he toured with several bands and ensembles. Later he studied singing with the soprano Janice Jackson (Canada) and the tenor Klaus-Peter Samson (Director of the Sängerakademie Hamburg).
In the last few years he concentrates on researching and performing the culture and music of his sicilian ancestors.
